Updated: Aug 19, 2019
Need a hot drink that is super satisfying and nutritious? Look no further than RealFat hot cacao!

Hot cacao. Who doesn't want to be told that drinking hot cocoa can be healthy for you!? Well if you thought it was merely an indulgent treat before, you will be delighted to know that you can make hot cacao that is every bit delicious as it is nutritious! I love to do this when I have extra milk from my cow share and it is especially appealing as the weather gets cooler. This recipe is high in healthy real fats -- keeping you full and full of energy!
Ingredients:
4 cups of raw whole grass-fed milk OR
(3 1/2 cups of unsweetened coconut milk + 1/2 cup grass-fed cream*) 1/3 cup of raw cacao powder 2 tsp. vanilla extract (I used homemade, but you could use this) 2 Tbs. grass-fed butter (I used Kerrygold, but you could use vanilla bean ghee or plain ghee) 3 Tbs. coconut sugar OR several drops of chocolate or vanilla Stevia if you want to keep it keto** Put everything in a medium-size saucepan on the stove on medium low heat. Heat it up slowly, stirring occasionally with a whisk, and being careful not to boil! When it starts to get steamy, blend the butter and any lumps of cacao powder into the milk either by hand with the whisk or with a milk frother. It is ready when it's nice and steamy and smooth and creamy.
*you can find grass-fed cream at Whole Foods and Ellwood Thompson's - look for cream that isn't ultra-pasturized and is in glass jars
**If you want to keep this high fat and low carb / keto, you can use unsweetened coconut milk and grass-fed cream instead of milk and use the stevia drops instead of coconut sugar! Coconut milk has 3 grams of carbs and raw milk has 12 grams. :)

I hope you enjoy!!
